How We Selected the Best Restaurant in Birmingham?

Choosing the best restaurants involves more than simply looking at star ratings. We considered a combination of the following factors:

Food Quality & Culinary Expertise — The quality, consistency and creativity of the food.

Specialist Cuisine & Concept — Whether the restaurant has a distinctive culinary identity.

Dining Experience — Service, atmosphere, presentation and the overall experience.

Reputation — Recognition from established food guides, Michelin and reputable publications.

Customer Reviews — Publicly available ratings and the volume of customer feedback.

Menu & Dietary Options — Variety, tasting-menu options and suitability for different diners.

Accessibility & Location — Where the restaurant is situated and how practical it is for diners to visit.

Birmingham's restaurant scene has changed considerably in recent years. The city now has restaurants ranging from highly technical Michelin-starred experiences to more relaxed venues that still put serious attention into ingredients and cooking.

For diners looking for a special occasion, Birmingham offers several restaurants where the meal itself becomes the main event. Tasting menus, chef-led experiences and carefully curated wine lists are particularly prominent among the city's higher-end restaurants.

At the same time, Birmingham's best restaurants are not limited to traditional British fine dining. Modern Indian cuisine, plant-focused cooking, contemporary British food and experimental tasting menus all feature strongly.

The restaurants below were selected because they combine reputation, customer feedback, culinary identity, quality of publicly available information and relevance to people searching for a memorable restaurant experience in Birmingham.

Please note: This guide is for general information and comparison purposes. Being included on this list does not constitute a recommendation or guarantee of a particular outcome.

This restaurant should be a 3 Michelin Star restaurant and there is genuinely no reason why it is not. Chef Aktar Islam's food is completely inspired. Every single plate of food is perfectly crafted, balanced with a perfect blend of flavours. I was able to tell Chef Akhtar today his food is 3* level & I cannot wait for him and his staff to be awarded them. 10/10 no notes. 100% recommend.

We visited here for my 40th birthday. We chose the 7 course tasting menu with option 2 paired wines. Everything was fantastic. The service was attentive but not OTT, the sommelier was just what you’d want from one and the food led the way and was delicious and perfect. Will certainly visit again.

We really loved it here. The food was excellent. Some of the chefs that came to explain their dishes could have spoken a bit slower and taken a bit more time to explain. They go so fast spmetimes you hardly get to actually understand what they are saying. We had a nice tour in the kitchen. Again, it was a bit rushed. Would have liked more insight. However all in all we had an amazing night.

One more comment; I would say its a little bit too expensive for what you get. If i was comparing it with Opheem for example.

It was absolutely an amazing experience. Each course was gorgeous. The kitchen’s commitment to technique and sourcing is evident in every bite. Every course arrived looking like a modern masterpiece. The balance of flavours was impeccable. There was a clear narrative to the signature menu, transitioning from bright starters to rich, deeply complex mains.

We came here in early April. Amazing service by the host and the servers from start to finish. Our group ordered the signature menu with some wine and a mocktail. Every single dish blew my mind, but my most favourite one was the trout. It was such an incredible dish and what a pleasure to have tasted it! BTW, I wonder what's the reason behind such loud hard rock music? 😅

LAND honestly deserves to be on Michelin’s radar 🌟 The vegan tom yum genuinely blew my mind — the flavour, depth, and authenticity are unreal🔥 Like… how do you create this much complexity without any animal products?

Every dish felt creative, intentional, and full of love. It completely exceeded my expectations and I already can’t wait to come back. Michelin, you need to check this place out 👀

Also loved the little touch of having seeds on the menu that you can take home and grow — such a thoughtful detail that really reflects their values 🌱

Superb new tasting menu at the new-look 670 grams. It’s a light, cool space filled with happiness and joy. The food is subtle but bursting with flavour and full of little surprises. One of the standouts for me was the bread course. The bread was glazed with Digbeth honey and so light! Accompanying it were a locally foraged herb butter, thin slivers of mint cured lamb and a clever take on Birmingham Soup with Wagyu in it. The idea is that the soup cooks the Wagyu, so you decide whether to have it straight away or leave it to cook. It was delicious. A great place for a celebration. Open for lunch and dinner. Booking through OpenTable or the restaurant’s website.

10/10 no criticisms. Food was amazing, well thought out. Loads of courses on the standard tasting menu, very well designed. Some standout flavours and British seasonal produce expertly delivered. Hospitality was on point. Outstanding value for money.

Easily one of the best restaurants we've been to in Birmingham.
